Our Auxiliary has an Honorary Life Membership program.  There is an Auxiliary committee, appointed annually by the President, to decide whether to bestow honorary status on an auxiliary member.  They can select up to 3 recipients each year, and there are certain criteria such as longevity & service to the Auxiliary that are considered.  Usually the honor is given to someone who has volunteered for many, many years/hours and has contributed above & beyond just volunteering in their assigned area.  For example, they have been a service area chairperson or they've served on the Board, or they've made some sort of extraordinary contribution.  Often they are "retired" volunteers but not always. Honorary Life Members no longer have to pay dues for membership in the Auxiliary which is nice for the folks who are still active volunteers, and they are always included on the guest list for special events, and receive the newsletter and any other correspondence which is nice for those who don't volunteer anymore.  We have a plaque in our office bearing the names of all those honored.
