What unique things are you doing to keep your volunteer staff engaged while they are not in service?
I am calling volunteers, at least 3 to 5 a day. I have a group text I use for the Junior Volunteers. I am letting them know how much they are missed and sharing comments from the staff. This has been so well received that I had the idea, to get them, to start making calls.
I have a Senior Friends group with 2,500 members. So, the volunteers, who work directly with this senior program are now making calls to them.
We just start with simply friendly conversations so they know they are not alone. Some conversations are short. While others are long and a much needed life line.
I just started yesterday, with the volunteers making calls, and so far they have made over 100. I am going to set up a conference call line so I can talk to, my volunteers who are working on this project, at least once a day, to give updates and share ideas.
I would love to here other ideas that everyone is trying!
Thanks, I'm going to implement the calling next week! Thanks!
I asked managers to send me a list of their employees' names and then emailed my volunteers to see if they would be willing to send a personalized cheer/thank you/general goodness note to our staff. It was really well received and then for areas that didn't give me names, we had some notes without names that I just gave out to managers.
Labor intensive, but appreciated by staff and volunteers liked doing it!
