Background Checks for Minors

    Hello,

    As we prepare for our summer Teen Volunteer Program, we have encountered a challenge with our current background check vendor, who is unable to effectively process screenings for minors. I am reaching out to see if anyone has recommendations for companies that can reliably conduct background checks for volunteers under 18 or find out if you forgo these checks altogether due to the limited information typically available for minors.

    Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

    • Juvenile criminal records are generally sealed or not publicly accessible, especially for individuals under 18.
    • Because of that, standard criminal background checks normally won’t return results for minors—and therefore we choose not to run them at all for anyone under 18.
    • Instead, we rely on parent/guardian consent forms and reference checks

    We run our minor background checks through PreCheck.

    Hello,

    We do not run background checks on anyone under the age of 18 because even if there are charges the information is protected so it's really just a waste of money.
